PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic composition containing the oil of Hippophac rhamnoides. L, etc., having a reduced content of tocopherol, not coloring with time and therefore having a high commercial value, the oil of the Hippophac rhammoides. L being prepared by dissolving the oil of the Hippophac rhamnoides. L or a hydrogenated product thereof in a non-polar solvent and subsequently passing the prepared solution through an adsorbing tower. CONSTITUTION:An oil obtained from the pericarp of Hippophac rhamnoides. L or a hydrogenated product thereof is dissolved in a non-polar solvent (e.g., petroleum ether, n-hexane or CCl4) and once or circulatively passed through an adsorbing tower filled with an adsorbing agent (e.g., silica or active China clay) to give the purified oil or the hydrogenated product thereof wherein the content of tocopherol is reduced to <=200ppm. An cosmetic composition contains the purified oil or the hydrogenated product thereof. The solvent after treated is distilled off by a heating distillation process only or together with a steam- bubbling process under a reduced pressure. The cosmetic composition has excellent storage stability because of generating no coloration caused by the oxidation reaction of the tocopherol. |
