PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure a molecular weight quickly and accurately by operating the transfer distance of each densitometric pattern from a measurement starting point as a relative transfer value for a measuring distance interval between the measurement starting point and a measurement finishing point. CONSTITUTION:An electrophoresis film is mounted on supporting-body mounting stage 1. The variable density data of a densitometric pattern from the measurement starting point of a material to be measured to the measurement finishing point are read from information inputted in the CPU of an apparatus beforehand. At this time, a light source 4 for reflecting light is lit in a reflected light mode. The reflected light is received by a reflected light detecting part 2. In a transmitted light mode, a light source 5 for transmitted light is lit. The transmitted light is received by a transmitted light detecting part 3. The light signals which are received by the light receiving parts 2 and 3 are transduced into electric signals. The signals are transferred into an analog voltmeter 6 and an interface 7. Said electric signals undergo operation in an operating part 9 through an A/D converter 8. The result is displayed on a display part 10 and recorded in a printer 12 through a printer data buffer part 11.
