PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst by which NOx is efficiently and directly decomposed without adding a reducing agent by using an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal and a metal such as Ru or Rh as essential components in a zeolite catalyst having a specified compsn. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for direct decomposition of NOx in exhaust gas is based on zeolite having a compsn. represented by a formula HA(M1)B (M2)C[(AlO2)X.(SiO2)Y].2H2O (where M1 is an alkali metal such as Na and an alkaline earth metal, M2 is a metal such as Ru, Rh, Pd or Ag, A+n1B+n2C=X, and n1 is the valence of M1 and n2 is the valence of M2). NOx is efficiently and directly decomposed by the catalyst without adding a reducing agent. |
