Mechanism composed of a series of axially displaceable vertical columns which support the roof and which have, connected to their lower end, a cable which passes over change-of-direction pulleys and is anchored by its free end to a fixed point on the bodywork, one of the pulleys being displaceable by means of a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder for pulling on the cable and generating the raising or lowering of the columns and, therewith, the roof of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
