A dispersion is prepd. by polymerising a water-sol. monomer (A) with stirring, in an aq. soln. of a salt, in presence of a dispersant (B). The salt and the salt concn. are at least 15 wt.% concn. such that the polymer is not dissolved, and the dispersant is dissolved. (B) is a polyol, esp. ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, pentaerythritol and/or sorbitol; or polyethylene glycol and/or polypropylene glycol with mol. wt. up to 600. (A) is the mixt. of a cationic monomer of formula (I) and an water-sol. acryl monomer (mol. ration 100/0-5/95); in formula, R1 is H or CH3; R2, R3 are C1-3 alkyl; A is O or NH; B is C2-4 alkylene or hydroxypropylene; X- is a zwitterion.
