An electromagnetic actuator comprises a pair of relatively movable members which are made of magnetic material and which face each other, and a plurality of concentric coils provided in one of the members. In each of coils, the direction of an electric current supply is opposite to that of adjacent coils, wherein at least one radiatly extending slit is formed in the other member and has a peripheral edge bent in a direction away from the one member.
