A data processing system comprises a number of modules connected together by a bus. When the system is initially powered up, the bus is interrogated to determine the actual configuration of modules on the bus. This actual configuration is then compared with the expected configuration, held in a memory. If they do not match, and if the actual configuration is potentially dangerous, the power supply is immediately switched off to prevent electrical damage. Otherwise, a bootstrap procedure is initiated for loading programs into the system for normal operation.
|
