PURPOSE:To improve the toughness and bending strength of the title sintered body by adding a flocculant to an alumina-zirconia mixed slurry and carrying out wet granulation, molding and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A deflocculant such as HCl and water are added to partially stabilized zirconia powder contg. 2-3mol% yttria and having <=0.5-mum average particle size or to unstabilized zirconia powder having <=0.5mum average particle size and they are stirred to obtain a zirconia slurry. A deflocculant and water are added to easily sinterable alumina powder having 0.1-1mum average particle size and >=99.5% Al2O3 content and they are stirred to obtain an alumina slurry. The zirconia slurry is mixed with the alumina slurry and stirred, a flocculant such as sodium hexametaphosphate is added to the resulting alumina-zirconia mixed slurry and this slurry is evaporated to dryness to obtain flocks having about 10mum diameter. These flocks are calcined, molded and sintered. |
