A desk-top thermal printer (1) includes a main unit (2) having a passage (3) for continuous strip (S) comprising thermosensitive labels (L) detachably attached to the backing sheet. A device is provided for retaining a roll (R) of the label strip. The printer also includes a thermal label detector (19), a thermal label strip transfer device, a thermal printing device for printing characters, marks etc. on labels transferred. The printer further includes a label peeling device, a label affixing device, a data input unit, a data display and a controller for the above devices.
