PURPOSE:To perform automatic self-cleaning by a method wherein a sheet form recording paper is discriminated each time of supplying a paper, an ordinary paper part provided at an end of a sheet form thermal recording paper is positioned at the position of a thermal head which is preheated, and the thermal recording paper is minutely reciprocated several times in forward and backward directions. CONSTITUTION:An ordinary paper is used as a base paper for a rolled form paper, whereas a transparent resin paper is used as a base paper for sheet form papers. A header composed of an ordinary paper not coated with a color forming layer is provided at a leading end part of each of the sheet form papers. The sheet form paper fed along a platen roller 501 is fed between the roller 501 and a thermal head 550. When the header part at the end of the paper is detected by a paper-discharging switch 503, a platen motor 506 once retracts the header part to a position beneath the head 550, at which position the paper is moved forward and backward several times, and the paper is again returned to the position of a paper-discharging switch 504, resulting in a condition ready for recording. During the forward and backward movements, refuse of printing adhered to the surface of an insulator covering the surfaces of heat generating resistors of the head 550 is removed by being rubbed by the header part of the thermal recording paper. |
