PURPOSE:To detect a pattern corresponding to a specific pattern to be detected independently of white or black of the pattern by incrementing the accumulated value of points on both sides of an edge point with respect to a parameter plane. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup part 1 converts a sample picture to an electric signal, and the input picture is converted to a digital signal and is stored in a picture memory 2. An edge strength calculating part 3 causes a prescribed differential operator to act upon said picture to calculate the edge strength. An increment point calculating part 4 calculates a reference point forecast position of said picture in accordance with calculated edge strength information. A picture memory 5 for parameter plane accumulates calculated values of reference point positions in accordance with calculation results of the calculating part 4. A reference point detecting part 6 detects a reference point based on the accumulated value of the parameter plane. A display part 7 displays detection results on a CRT display device or the like. |
