<p>PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance having jasmone-like smell and useful as a perfume, in high yield and purity, by the catalytic hydrogenation of an easily synthesizable low-cost hydroxycyclopentenone compound in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula II (R3 is H or alkyl; R4 is H, alkyl, etc.; r3 and R4 are not H at the same time) can be prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of the hydroxycyclopentenone compound of formulaI(R1 is H, alkyl, or alkenyl; R2 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, aralkyl, or cycloalkyl; R1 and R2 are not H at the same time) in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, etc. The compound of formulaIcan be synthesized by the rearrangement reaction of the furan carbinol compound of formula III in a solvent such as water in the presence or absence of a catalyst.</p> |
