A resin coating composition is described which is characterised in that it contains, as principal component, an amino-containing modified epoxy resin derivative which has been obtained by subjecting to an addition reaction a hydroxyl-containing epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent of from 200 to 400 and a cyclic ester compound of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and n is from 3 to 6, in order to obtain an addition product onto which is then added a polyphenol compound and a compound which contains amino groups.
