A videophone has at least a telephone set, an image recorder and a video playback machine. This videophone allows pictures to be taken from one or several persons located in front of the telephone set, as well as from documents, in the most simple manner. For that purpose, images of documents (8) that can be set on a support (10) arranged underneath the screen (9) can be recorded and transmitted by unfolding a mirror (6) in front of the lens (7) of the camera (3). A very compact videophone is thus obtained, since the video playback (2), the image recorder (3) and a control monitor (4) for the images taken by the image recorder (3) and transmitted through the telephone lines can be all integrated in a housing (5).
