<p>A method of matching operation mode of a modem that connects terminal equipment to a telephone circuit, i.e., a method of matching operation mode determined by a communication speed, a code system and a synchronizing system between the calling side and the called side of the telephone circuit. When an extension designation signal sent from the calling side is detected on the called side, the operation mode of the modem corresponding to the extension designation signal is read out from a conversion means, a designated modem operation mode is selected out of the operation modes of a plurality of modem circuits provided on the called side, and the operation mode of the modem of the called side is matched with that of the calling side. The modem of the called side has a function to detect a push button dial signal which is an extension designation signal and operation modes of a plurality of modems, and further has a function for changing the operation mode at any time depending on the designation from the terminal equipment of the called side. The terminal equipment on the called side has means for rendering the extension designation signal from the calling side corresponded to the operation mode of the modem, and the terminal equipment on the calling side has means which makes a call in response to a telephone number that includes an extension designation signal of the inward dialling service corresponding to the operation mode of the modem and converts it on the called side into an operation mode that corresponds to the extension designation signal.</p> |
