The disc memory subsystem contains a channel control unit (111), a disc control unit (110) and discs (90-93) and connection lines (113-120 and 137-152). The disc can be of a magnetic, optical or semiconductor type. The channel control unit has 8 channels for handling simultaneous requests for disc access. Within the disc controller are modules (100-103) that process the requests and handle the data transfers between the discs and channels. Each module is processor based. Interconnection between the modules and the channels is provided by a multipath switching device (109). A Cache memory is used to store data from the discs and operates with a non volatile memory (NVS) that secures data. ADVANTAGE - Improves effectiveness of disc controller and reduces oossibility of data loss.
