The invention relates to a cooling apparatus for light fittings suitably provided with a holder (7) for a dichroic halogen lamp, said apparatus comprising cooling fins (4) in connection with a body structure (1, 3). Said body structure (1, 3) and the cooling fins (4) integrally united therewith are detached from the lamp and are located essentially behind its reflector. Said body structure (1, 3) consists of a section (5a) of a body material (5) having a continuously uniform cross section in that said cooling fins (4) and said body material (5) united therewith in each cross section correspond to their respective projections in a given direction. Said invention further relates to a method for the manufacture of an apparatus for dissipating heat from lamps, especially the manufacture of fittings for dichroic halogen lamps. Said method utilizes heat conductive preferably extruded tubular material (5) provided with cooling fins (4) as the basic material for said apparatus. Said material is cut in sections (5a) having a length (1) of not more than 2.5 times the largest dimension (b) in the cross direction of said material (5), preferably not more than 1.5 times said dimension. A bottom piece (1) is attached to a cross section of said tubular section (5a) so as to produce a structure which is essentially closed in one direction, and said bottom piece (1) is provided with means (6) for the attachment of a lampholder (7).
