Devices which are used to adjust or determine the core position of an optical waveguide (1) mostly had until now an optics, in particular a microscope. The method of determining or aligning the position of the fibre core of an optical waveguide (1) with respect to the corresponding connector pin (2) by measuring the injected light intensity between two optical waveguides (1), which mutually face each other with their end faces, as a function of the displacement of the optical waveguide (1), which is to be adjusted, transversely with respect to its axis, usually involves the use of a master connector (7). According to the invention, no optics whatsoever is used between the optical waveguides (1). A master connector (7) is used. The essential feature of the invention is a fitting sleeve (4) which provides approximately the same conditions as a connector, for example a connector sleeve. The fitting sleeve (4) is designed in terms of construction in a particular manner by a slot (5) and by cutouts (6) for adjusting and determining the core position of an optical waveguide (1), for the specific displacement of the optical waveguide (1) with respect to the corresponding connector pin (2) by means of a gripper (11). <IMAGE>
