Photoelectric pulse pickups, in which one or more transmitters and receivers are arranged in a guide element which can be placed with its application face against the surface of the body of a patient, are sensitive to electromagnetic irradiation and, for example, not suitable for use in the radio- (high-)frequency field of a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) terminal graph due to the currents induced in them. The invention proposes a fibre-optic arrangement of which the sensor element (2) contains only dielectric materials and is permanently connected via an optical-fibre cable (4) to a connector (6) which contains the optical transmitter and receiver and can be electrically connected to an operational unit. <IMAGE>
