Means of improving oral hygiene are described which include a dentifrice for the differential disclosure of ''new'' and ''old'' plaque, a toothbrushing apparatus (10) which has a head provided with an array of upstanding bristles (11) formed into a V-shaped and a probe adapted for use in assessing the degree of inflammation of various animal tissues. One embodiment of the probe (100) is useful for the examination of periodontal tissues, particularly the determination of pocket depths and the degree of gingivitis and is characterised by the means (106) by which a predetermined force is exerted on a needle member (101) when a depth measurement is made. |
