PURPOSE:To retard the time of inter-electrode shortcircuiting due to waste active substance accumulated on the bottom of a battery jar without lessening the area of electrode plates by allowing the battery jar to accommodate positive electrode plates, negative electrode plates, separators, and electrolyte, and by installing aux. electrodes in electrical continuity to one of the negative electrode plates on the bottom of the battery jar. CONSTITUTION:A battery jar 1 accommodates a certain number of positive electrode plates 5a and negative electrode plates 5b, and also separators 6 interposed therebetween, and aux. electrodes 24, 27 in electrical continuity to one of the negative electrode plates 5b are installed on the bottom of the battery jar 1. Even though the active substance separates off during service from the positive electrode plates 5a, or active substance particles particulated through repeated oxodating/reducing reactions separate off or go afloat, the waste active substance such as charged active substance particles is attracted by the aux. electrodes 24, 27 in electrical continuity to the negative electrode plates 5b arranged at the bottom in the battery jar 1 to be deposited on the bottom and solidified as a negative electrode active substance, which allows depositing to a level near the height of a saddle 7. This retards the time of inter-electrode shortcircuiting due to waste active substance accumulated on the bottom of the battery jar without lessening the area of electrode plates. |
