Method and apparatus for the qualitative determination of tar-containing constituents in lining asphalts

The method for the qualitative determination of tar-containing constituents in lining (finishing) asphalts comprises blowing hot air onto the sample to be analysed, passing a substream of the resulting air through commercial testing (analysis) tubes for o-xylene and there watching for a blue-grey coloration typical of degradation products of tar-containing samples but atypical of o-xylene. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a commercial hot air pistol (gun) having a drawing-in line mounted opposite the pistol grip with an elastic attachment sleeve for testing tubes or a fixed diaphragm vacuum pump having an attachment sleeve for testing tubes.
