The engine cylinder head has auxilary combustion chamber comprises a main body (10) containing an insert (36) whose lower face is towards the cylinder bore (14), and in which the auxilary chamber (26), connected to the bore, is formed. A gasket (18) incorporates a sealing ring (40) round the bore periphery. The insert has a flange, by which it is a press-fit in a recess (34) in the main body. The top surface of the flange is also in close contact with the surface of the recess. A gap (g) is formed between this flange surface and that of the recess, and within an area where it overlaps the cylinder bore.
