A method for generating power in a solid fuel gas turbine utilizing a pressurized fluidized bed combustor (33) (PFBC) achieves high efficiency by evaporation cooling and regenerative heating of the compressor discharge air, thus eliminating the need to recover heat from the turbine exhaust gas by a costly and complex steam bottoming system. Air (26) is compressed in compressor (27) and then mixed with water (30) sprayed into a spray evaporator (29), thereby producing cooled compressed air (40). This cooled compressed air (40) is then heated by gas turbine (14) exhaust gases before passing into PFBC (33). Solid fuel (10) is then burnt in the PFBC (33), thereby producing vitiated air which is then expanded in the gas turbine (14) after having been cleaned by cyclone separator (25). A cycle for avoiding turbine fouling, and thus compressor surge, as well as a cycle with the use of a coal desired hydrocarbon-based low BTU gas in a top-up combustor are also disclosed. |
