Class 132(2) Ball throwing and catching apparatus comprises a handle 1 formed with a ring 2 the inner edge of which is bevelled or rounded as at 4, Fig. 2, or provided with at least three projections 3,.the inner edges of which are bevelled or rounded; Fig. 1, and a ball of such diameter that between a quarter and a third of its diameter projects through the ring when it rests thereon. As shown in Fig. 2, further rings 6 of smaller diameter and a striking plate 5 between the handle and the ring may be provided. As shown in Fig. 4, a smaller ring 9 is mounted on struts 11 behind the main ring 2 which acts either as a cage for the ball or a catcher-projector for a smaller ball, the main ring being enlarged or apertured opposite the handle so that it does not foul the smaller ball. As shown in Fig. 6, two rings 2 are pivoted together at 13 and provided with hand grips 12, the pivoting either being tongs-fashion as shown or scissors-fashion. For storage, the ball may be retained on the ring by elastic cords taking over projections 16 or into notches in the ring. According to the Provisional Specification, the ring may be backed by a net, the device may be stood up obliquely on a stand to serve as a target, the device may be in the form of tongs the ball receiving surfaces of which are fitted with friction material or formed with grooves, several devices may be pivoted together in fan fashion, or two curved arms are pivoted together, are so shaped as to form a heart-shaped aperture when closed and are joined by a net which is taut when the arms are open and forms a ball-receiving bag when the arms are closed.</p> |
