PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized, stable beam spot by controlling a variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element and controlling the phases of respective waveguides, individually. CONSTITUTION:An incidence lens 2 is arranged on one side of the variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element 7 and an optical waveguide G whose light is not split through the operation of the electrode group 4 of the optical deflecting element 7 and a projection optical fiber group 5 are arranged on the opposite projection side. Incident light enters a waveguide layer 3 which constitutes an optical waveguide through an incidence-side lens 2 and is projected in the optical waveguides separated by upper electric electrodes 4a - 4d and projected to the optical fibers 5 through an optical waveguide G which is not under electric control when the power source is turned on. Voltages applied to those electrodes 4a - 4d are controlled respectively to converge the projection light on the center of curvature of the equal-phase plane of the projection light while making the equal-phase plane spherical, thereby converging the incident light 1 on the incidence point of a selected optional optical fiber. Consequently, the small-sized optical switch with which the stable beam spot is obtained is constituted. |
