PURPOSE:To obtain an optical switch which can separate light in plural directions by using a variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element as the deflector of the optical switch. CONSTITUTION:The variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element is used as the deflector of the optical switch. The variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element 4 splits the incident light for plural waveguides, so the propagation constants of those waveguides are varies electrically and respectively, then projection light beams from the respective waveguides shift the phase and pass through a cylindrical lens 5 at specific angles to the optical axis l, and are converged by a lens 6. Then the light is deflected by the variable phase waveguide type optical deflecting element 4, so the convergence position shifts and the light is entered into a selected optical fiber 8 or 9. Consequently, the optical switch which splits the light in >=2 directions is obtained. |
