Manufacture of an electrical conductor with permanent superconducting characteristics, by means of a modified heat-treatment process. Apart from the manufacture of the metallic conductor material, synthetic or electrically conducting materials may also be made superconducting on a permanent basis. The invention also provides a method and apparatus for the activation, variation, control and/or switching of an electric current in the circuit of superconducting material, bringing said circuit completely or partially to a non-superconducting state, during which state the current of the circuit may be manipulated. <IMAGE>
