Class 27 Coin-freed apparatus for dispensing lengths of paper, such as toilet paper or absorbent hand towels, from a perforated or scored roll comprises a shaft 14 for receiving the roll, discs 23 of resilient material carried on pivoted links 23a, and pressing the paper against a ribbed metering roller 18, a lead-out 20 having slots through which the roller 18 and discs 23 extend and a control boss 28 geared to the metering roller and having two diametrically opposite grooves 29, 30 co-operating with a U-shaped rocker arm 32. When a coin is inserted in a slot 34, it bears against a roller 36 at one end of the slot and depresses a roller 33 on the rocker arm, thus releasing the further end of the arm from the groove 30 and causing a pivoted pawl 35 to move to the end of the other groove 29 and rotate the control boss sufficiently to ensure that the rocker arm does not re-engage with the groove 30 when the coin drops between the rollers 33, 36. With the control boss freed, a knob on the shaft 24 of the control boss can be rotated to turn the metering roller and feed the paper until the rocker arm again engages the groove 30. A ratchet catch 31a prevents opposite rotation. Rotation of the shaft 24 to effect an initial supply of paper may be effected by connecting it to a coin-freed door lock. A light spring may bear on the roll of paper to prevent over-run and an "empty" indicator 39 is provided on a lever 40 bearing on the paper. The Provisional Specification also describes a pair of rubber-faced bars which grip the paper between them and, on coin release, are moved forward to bring the free end of the paper to an accessible position, after which the bars separate for a time to allow the paper to be withdrawn. |
