PURPOSE:To obtain the title yarn inexpensively and efficiently while preventing fusing, end breakage, etc., of yarn during infusibilizing by doubling pitch yarn using a specific doubling oil agent and continuously infusibilizing the doubled yarn with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide in a linear state. CONSTITUTION:First, raw material pitch is subjected to melt spinning to give pitch yarn, which is doubled using a doubling oil agent to improve wetting between hydrogen peroxide and pitch yarn. Then the doubled yarn is continuously infusibilized with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide in a linear state. Successively, the infusibilized yarn is coated with a heat-resistant finishing oil and carbonized or graphitized by calcination in an inert atmosphere to give the aimed yarn. The infusibilizing treatment with the aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide is preferably carried out by using 20-40wt.% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide at 50-90 deg.C temperature of the treating solution for 10 minutes-1 hour while providing ultrasonic vibration. |
