Reciprocating piston internal combustion engine with crankcase charge air pumps

The invention relates to a two- and a four-stroke reciprocating piston internal combustion engine respectively with crankcase charge air pumps, which are each provided with a forced-feed lubrication system connected to the oil sump in an oil pan. The level of supercharging of the said internal combustion engines is limited by the size of their swept volume and correspondingly reduced by the "dead space" of their crank chambers. In order to achieve a higher output per unit of displacement by means of increased supercharging, a turbocharger driven by the exhaust gases from the working cylinders is connected upstream of the crankcase charge air pumps. In a four-stroke internal combustion engine a portion of the fresh charge is drawn in by the pistons at the start of each intake stroke and boosted by the pre-compressed charge air at higher pressure in the further course of the intake stroke of the working cylinders. In addition a two-stroke engine is combined with both an inlet and an exhaust roller slide valve respectively, and provided with a valve device for more rapid starting. In addition an effective and cheap charge air cooler designed as oil separator is demonstrated. <IMAGE>
