In a process for producing a band which can recover its shape under heat for wrapping around, for example, junctions of electric cables or conduit pipes, a multiplicity of prestretched individual filaments of crosslinked plastic running parallel to one another and next to one another in a plane are laminated with bands of thermoplastic material in a continuous operation. Between the individual filaments and at least one of the bands there is arranged a layer of threads of tear-resistant material, for example a cotton fabric.
