PURPOSE:To improve the characteristics of absorbing oxygen gas which is generated at overcharge by providing a conductive porous layer mainly composed of metallic Ni on the surface of active material mainly composed of Cd compound, and providing an organic compound layer between the Cd active material and the Ni layer. CONSTITUTION:Cd compound is applied on a conductive core body 3 whereby an active layer 2 is formed. A porous Ni layer 4 mainly composed of metallic Ni is formed at the surface of this layer 2. Also, an organic compound layer 6 is provided between the layer 2 and the layer 4. According to this composition, since the conductive layer 4 is formed at the surface of an electrode plate, the generation of metallic Cd advances by current application from the conductive Ni layer at the surface of the electrode plate, and a layer of metallic Cd is also formed at the surface of the electrode plate. The oxygen gas arising from a positive electrode during overcharge of the battery is absorbed by the metallic Cd of a negative electrode. Also, as the layer 6 is formed on the surface of the layer 2, when performing electrolytic plating, the surface of the electrode becomes smooth, and it becomes easy for a uniform plating layer to be formed. |
