Electric baking and roasting oven having a cooking space (2) which can be closed off by a door and is equipped with an upper and a lower heating element for the upper heat and lower heat, and the heating element (5) which forms the lower heat is integrated in a separating plate (4) which can change the volume of the cooking space and whose position within the cooking space (2) can be fixed by a motor-driven vertical-adjustment device. In order to achieve stable mounting and thus a disruption-free connection to the vertical-adjustment device, bearing journals (7, 7'; 8, 8') are assigned to the separating plate (4), on the right-hand and left-hand side, for each of the bearing journals (7, 7'; 8, 8') there being formed in the oven-muffle side walls (13, 14), semi-circular slots (15, 15'; 16, 16') which are covered from the outside by in each case one rotary disc (14, 14'; 15, 15'). The bearing journals (7, 7'; 8, 8') are fastened on the rotary discs (14, 14'; 15, 15') such that the latter carry them along. A drive gear wheel (21) is assigned to each of the rotary discs (14, 14'; 15, 15'). The drive gear wheels (21) of each rotary-disc pair (14, 14' and 15, 15') are coupled together by a chain (22) with a gear wheel (24) driven by the motor (23). <IMAGE>
