The invention relates to a magnetic tape cassette apparatus (1) having a drive serving for playing magnetic tape cassettes, which has a cassette loading mechanism which, by means of a lift lever (3), moves a cassette compartment (1a), which is guided displaceably in vertical guides, with a cassette (2) received by it between a high ejecting position and a low playing position. A cassette carrier (9) can be displaced by means of an actuating lever in a guide of the lift lever (3) in the drawing-in direction of the cassette (2), between an ejecting position and a draw-in position. In the raised ejecting position, the cassette compartment (1a) is extended so far in the ejecting direction that a guide clip (33), provided on it and interacting with the vertical guides, has pushed over a supporting lug (31a), on which the front part of the cassette compartment (1a) is supported. Before its lowering into the playing position, upon drawing in of the cassette (2) by means of the cassette carrier (9), the cassette compartment (1a) is retracted in the drawing-in direction (42) until the guide clip (33) has left the supporting lug (31a) and can be lowered on its vertical guide (31). <IMAGE>
