In the case of a railway sleeper made of prestressed concrete, having a sleeper body consisting of two bearing bodies, carrying the rail fastenings, and a central part of smaller cross-section, and having a reinforcement consisting of prestressing elements (6), such as steel bars, wires and strands, a gap forming a joint (4) is provided in the region of the central part. Arranged in the gap is a force-transmitting joint plate (5) made of flexible material, e.g. plastic, which is provided with apertures for passing through the prestressing element (6) and exhibits at its edges (11) a greater thickness than in its inner region (10), in which the apertures for passing through the prestressing elements (6) are situated. The prestressing elements (6) are surrounded, in each case over a region adjoining the joint gap (4) on both sides, via tubular sleeves (12) of plastic which pass through the joint plate (5) in the region of the apertures and are connected to the joint plate (5) to form a mounting part (9). This results in a saving of material for the joint plate (5) and uniform prestressing. At the same time, the prestressing elements (6) are reliably protected against corrosion in the region of the joint gap. <IMAGE>
