In a method for the coating of optical fibres with lacquer in a coating pot which is connected to a buffer vessel, it is provided that the buffer vessel has a supply unit with a supply vessel connected upstream, by means of which the filling level h in the buffer vessel is controlled to a constant value, a corresponding quantity of lacquer being supplied to the buffer vessel from the supply vessel via a rising conduit.
