A shaped jaw and device for welding railway rails and superstructure sections using rod or wire electrodes are further developed in such a way that they can be used with different rail sections. For this purpose, provision is made for the shaped-jaw bodies of the lateral shaped jaws to be composed of a lower part 1 with a profiling corresponding to the rail foot and an upper part 2 with a profiling corresponding to the rail head and for both parts optionally to be able to be spaced from one another. In particular, a tongue 6 and groove 7 are provided on the boundary faces 4, 5 in order to guide and space the two parts, spacers 8 of various heights being insertable into the groove 7. The inserts required as wear parts made of refractory material can be inserted from above into recesses 9 on the upper part 2 and lower part 1 and at the same time prevent lateral displacement of the upper part 2 with respect to the lower part 1. <IMAGE>
