Polarity reversal protection system for battery - uses electronic component or integrated circuit providing reverse voltage protection for each individual battery cell

The protection system uses an electronic component or electronic circuit across each of the NiCd battery cells. This limits the reverse voltage across the cell to a sufficiently low value to prevent damage, or which totally blocks the reverse voltage. Pref. a silicon semiconductor element or a monolithic IC is connected across each battery cell. The silicon semiconductor element may comprise an FET switch (4) controlled by an electronic control circuit (3) in dependence on the cell voltage, to switch in a parallel circuit path containing a Schottky diode (5).
