Known adjusting devices prevent load cycle shocks generated by too rapid opening of the throttle valve, but do not create any remedy for load cycle shocks occurring in the closing direction. The said disadvantage is avoided by the new adjusting device. In order to overcome the disadvantage, the adjusting device according to the invention has the characteristic that the throttle valve adjustment is performed by way of a vacuum cell irrespective of the arbitrary adjustment by the accelerator pedal, which cell when idling is acted upon by the atmosphere and in the partial and full load range by the intake pipe pressure, the change over between the pressures being performed by a valve. Adjusting devices of this type have applications in engine design and automotive engineering.
