It is proposed, by simple means, to develop the heat shield of a device of the generic type so that, in addition to its heat insulation function, it also exerts an effect increasing the ignition qualities of the injection jets. The object is achieved in that the heat shield (30) is designed as deflector screen, which between it and the nozzle base (28) defines a continuous intermediate space (36) and is provided with openings (50), by way of which the injection jets (18) draw air from the combustion chamber by injector effect which in the intermediate space (36) flows past the nozzle base (28) cooling it and passes into the edge zones of the injection jets (18). Pre-chamber diesel engines are the preferred sphere of application. <IMAGE>
