The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polysilazanes which is characterised in that at least one amine of the formula NH2R, where R is a hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl radical, and copper-activated silicon powder are reacted in a liquid reaction medium produced by adding a solvent and/or an excess of liquid amine.
