Adjustable CRT support stand

An adjustable stand for a CRT monitor including a base member (12) for pivotal attachment to a work surface; parallel articulating arms (48, 50), having lower ends pivotally connected to the base and upper ends connected to a bracket member (58); and a top beam member (96) rotatably connected to the top bracket member and maintained in a horizontal orientation by the articulating arms. The support arms are elevated by a gas spring (112) having its lower end (118) secured to the base member and having a cylinder end pivotally attached to the mid-section of one of the support arms. The pivotal attachment of the lower portion of the spring to the base is adjustable along a camming surface (29) which functions to move the pivot point of the support spring toward and away from the pivot axis of the urns, whereby varying the mechanical torque moment produced by the spring upon the articulating arms. Changing the torque moment enables the stand to compensate for the specific weight of the CRT monitor which is to be supported and to compensate for any loss in spring force over time.
