PURPOSE:To replace a font cartridge on-line by setting a timing for directly referring to the font cartridge when either a key switch or a power switch is operated. CONSTITUTION:Inside a printer 1 on which a font 2 is to be loaded, a resident font, a down loaded font, and a cartridge font are internally managed. If a cartridge is newly loaded, extracted, or replaced, thus resulting in a discrepancy being generated in the content of a table, a CPU rewrites a font information table and sets a timing so as to refer to the font cartridge at the time that the font cartridge 2 is completely loaded on the printer 1. Then, by referring to the cartridge, the CPU compares the cartridge with the internal font table and adds a new font to the internal font table if a cartridge is newly loaded; deletes the data if it is extracted; and rewrites the data if it is replaced. Therefore, a font cartridge can be replaced on-line. |
