A current sensor having an element made of amorphous magnetic metal is disclosed herein. The current sensor comprises an element (18) located near a conductor (22) and made of amorphous magnetic metal whose magnetic property varies in accordance with the intensity of a magnetic field generated from a current flowing through the conductor, magnetic field-applying means (24) applying a DC-bias magnetic field to the element, a coil (20) exhibiting electrical property corresponding to the magnetic property of the element, and output means (14) for outputting a signal corresponding to the electrical property of the coil. The coil has a specific positional relationship with the element, such that at least part of the magnetic flux generated by said coil passes through the element.
