PURPOSE:To obtain a low density graphite molded body having superior handleability and mechanical strength and useful as a heat insulating material or a uniformly heating material by joining a high density expanded graphite sheet to one side of a low density expanded graphite molded body. CONSTITUTION:A high density expanded graphite sheet having 0.4-1.7g/cm<3> bulk density and <=1mm thickness is adhered to at least one side of a low density expanded graphite molded body having 0.05-0.4g/cm<3> bulk density with an adhesive such as phenol resin to obtain a low density graphite molded body. Heat treatment and calcining in an inert atmosphere may be carried out after the adhesion as required. In case of a platelike molded body, such sheets are preferably adhered to opposite two sides of the molded body. |
