PURPOSE:To obtain a non-asbestos based friction material having excellent mass producing properties and large coefficient of torsional friction in initial stage of sliding and suitable for friction washer of clutch disc by blending a substrate consisting of sepiolite with a binder composition and friction improving agent containing calcined alumina. CONSTITUTION:The aimed friction material obtained by blending 10-30wt.% sepiolite with 3-10wt.% aramid fiber, 20-40wt.% binder composition consisting of thermosetting resin (e.g., phenol resin) and rubber material (e.g., styrene- butadiene rubber) and 5-15wt.% calcined alumina or blending 10-30wt.% sepiolite with 3-10wt.% aramid fiber, 20-40wt.% binder composition and 5-25wt.% friction improving agent (e.g., clay or graphite). |
