The invention relates to a process and a device for producing mineral-fibre boards (3), in which, following a thickness precompression in a prepress (4), a longitudinal compression is performed by bulging out of the mineral fibre layer (3) in several successively arranged compression stages (8 to 11) up to entry into the tunnel oven (5). This achieves the effect of a gradual longitudinal compression, which results in a very uniform and lasting alignment of the fibres within the layer (3). This in turn increases to a considerable extent the compressive strength and abrasion resistance of the end product.
