PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound having wide uses, such as moisture absorbent, in high quality without any side reaction by carrying out elimination of a lower alcohol from a beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acid ester prepared from acrylic or methacrylic acid esters and the lower alcohol as a raw material using a catalyst under mild conditions. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic or methacrylic acid esters expressed by formula I (R1 is H or methyl: R2 is 1-3C alkyl) are reacted with a lower alcohol expressed by formula II (R3 is 1-3C alkyl) at a molar ratio preferably within the range of 0.3-3 based on the compound expressed by formula l in the presence of a basic catalyst, such as sodium mistletoe, to provide a beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acid ester expressed by formula III, which is then reacted with a cyclic amine expressed by formula IV [Y is methylene, etc.; m and n integers so as to provide (m+n) of 3.5] to afford a beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxamide. The lower alcohol is subsequently eliminated from the resultant compound beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxamide in the presence of a basic catalyst to form an unsaturated group and provide a compound expressed by formula V. |
