TREATING ALUMINIUM WORKPIECES

A method of treating aluminium workpieces to improve their corrosion resistance comprises applying a coating of brazing flux, such as a potassium aluminium fluoride brazing flux, heating the coated workpiece in an inert atmosphere, and exposing the heated workpiece to an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature of from 520 to 630C. Treatment may be continued for from 0.5 to 15 minutes. Treatment is preferably performed in conjunction with brazing, by exposing the workpiece to e.g. atmosphere on the cooling side of the brazing cycle.
